Newark civil war museum

I visited the museum in Newark, Notts, last month and think it's worth a visit if you're in the area and want to know more about the English civil war. The length of the pistols then in use surprised me - they were about 2 ft / 60 cm long. By chance, they also had the unidentified Roman bronze dodecahedron found at nearby Norton Disney in Lincs, though it might not be there now.

Why was such a remote location chosen for the museum? Is there any significance of Newark to English Civil War?

The place is not remote at all and has a castle. It lies beside the A1 north - south road between London and Edinburgh. Newark was besieged by the Roundheads but a subsequent outbreak of disease killed more people than died in the siege.
