No 1 grenade query

I was just wondering who the maker of this number 1 is. I've looked in the grenade book I have and can't see this one.

The marks on the wood are:

"No I-III W.E.Co Ltd"

All inert and empty.

Thanks.

Dave.

W.E Co Ltd was probably Wedmore Engineering & Co of Wedmore Street, Upper Holloway, London. They also made the Mills No 5.

For the No.1, WE Co.Ltd is Western Electric Co. Ltd. Between November 1915 and October 1916 are down as making 63,600 Service grenades, 10,000 Instructional and 2,000 Sectional.

{For the No.5, WE is William Edgar, Blenheim Works, Hammersmith.}

The British company was set up in the 1880's as a distributor for telephone and exchange equipment made by Western Electric, Chicago. By 1914 the UK operation specialised in telephones, cables and lighting so was probably pretty nifty with brass work and solder - hence an appropriate choice for making the No.1.

Thanks Tom. Does that mean the info on Dave's website is wrong in this case for WE?
