Sorry if this has been asked before but what do the initials D.L.R. stand for on the bottom of my no69 grenade...Ill try and get some pictures up as well as it has some odd looking internals....

Yes . They still make our banknotes today & for many other countries . They were one of a very few companies in WW2 that could make Bakelite .

De La Rue Mike

About 10 years ago I visited their print-works to do a security audit. (They passed)

I wonder if they have an archive of drawings and patterns of the 69 grenade, would be interesting to see if they have.

Might be worth a try. I know Qualcast (Mills 36) used to keep all their wartime papers.

If anyone has them , it'll be Snufkin . He has a lot of the Qualcast stuff & archives from other manufacturers .

Thanks for the help folks.Heres some pics of the internals I was talking about.Could the be for weighting it for training purposes? There are traces of white paint on my grenade.P1080818.jpgP1080817.jpg

Yes , that's exactly what they are for . The training ones , like yours , are much rarer than normal ones .

I did approach them many years ago ( maybe 30 years!) and they could not locate any technical information from WW2 on the No 69 Grenade but I was put in touch with an old gentleman who worked the tooling for the grenade component mouldings. Regrettably no prototypes emerged from the encounter but we drank plenty of tea.
