we have found these on 60pdr shrapnel see attached image
plus now have this additional info provided by member Bonnex on 28/03/14
"In combination with the No 44 it was also used for 4.5-inch and 6-inch Howitzer AA shrapnel.
Later it was adopted for use with 4.5-inch and 3.7-inch QF Howitzer Base Ejection smoke shells."
