Non-Dug WWI German Large Can Stick Grenade

Here is a non-dug example of a WWI German large can stick grenade by Carl Spaeter. This is the only non-dug example of a large can grenade that I have seen. The sheet metal on this is very thick compared to other WWI stick grenades. This is one of my favorite grenades even though it has some damage. Sadly, It was used as a hammer at one time and had a knife stuck in the end cap. Note the unusual style of the end cap. There are traces of original paint and stenciling if you look close. The handle looks to be dated 1916. Inside is the original cardboard liner and wax. There is only minor surface rust. Just thought you might like to see this one.

awesome

Great '15 stick Mike. There are a handfull of non-dug '15 sticks floating around the US but not many. The variations of the can on these is mind boggling. There are at least a sawbuck that I know of and i'm sure there are others. You appear to have a very nice collection and I for one sure like seeing them...Dano
