nose cones

Hello,
This is a very, very basic question for you guys and I don't think it's going to generate too much conversation - my apologies. When I look at images of 3.7 inch AA fuses, the nose cone is either a dark brown colour, or it is metallic silver. Why the difference? Again sorry for my ignorance.
 
The dark brown is most likely a poor rendition of black, the nose cone being made of Bakelite, the silver being those fitted with aluminium nose cones. Bakelite was an accepted alternative.

In particular with the 199 fuze, it appears that the nose cones were aluminium up until sometime in 1941 when they mostly changed to Bakelite. If you have an original fuze of say 1940 it will have an aluminium nose cone, but one from 1942 or 43 it will be Bakelite. They are interchangeable.
