Fascinating stuff. They kept firing right up to the end despite knowing from about 5.00am that it was going to end at 11.00am.
I wouldnt be suprised if it was only to get rid of the ammo so the troops didnt have to take it back with them.
Have read somewhere that the CO of an American Regiment ordered ordered his troops to attack a village so his men could have a bath at the cessation of hostilities and this caused a considerable loss of life just before it all stopped. I think i would have told him where he could put his bath!
