Novice question!!!!

Drill round

New Member
I've just joined BOCN and haveonly been collecting for a short time (post ww2 cannon rounds up to 57mm). I am amazed at some of the projectiles and cases I've seen on here - quality stuff! The question is simply this - where do you go to get them??!! I go to military fairs but the more unusual rounds are simply not here or seem to go for astronomical figures on on-line sites. Is there a particular fair or site that I should be going to or looking at to get me going??:questionmark:

Welcome to the forum mate.

There is plenty of the more common stuff about at fairs etc as you say but alot of finding what you want/need is luck. Bieng in the right place at the right time, knowing the right people etc. Its always worth asking here if something specific is needed as sometimes members have spares that they are willing to sell or swap.

You mention high prices, well some stuff is rare and very sought after so unfortunatly can be a very expensive hobby.

What rounds do you have in your collection already? Are there any rounds in particular that you are looking for? I may have a couple of smaller rounds in my spares box that id be willing to sell/swap.

Hello Drill Round,

Welcome aboard!!!

As to where you may find stuff??? :hmmmm2:

"Everywhere..............!"

> Fleamarkets
> Decease Estate Auctions
> Millitaria Auctions
> Fleabay
> Garage sales
> Militaria Collectors Clubs
> Other Collectors (normally no "bargains" here, unless they have no idea! But horse trading can be fun!!!)
> Antique shops
> Militaria Shops (do these even exist now?)
> Internet
> Gun Shows
> Scuba diving on wrecks
> Antique Arms Fairs
> RSL clubs (although most of this stuff is rusty and not looked after, and any thing of value long gone!)
> Retirement Villages ( I just thought of this one!)
> Gun shops
> Shooting clubs (someone always got a "Samurai Sword" that Granddad brought back!)
> Advertise "Wanted to Buy"......"Top Prices Paid" blab blab etc
> the list go on.

I guess you are only limited by your imagination on where to look.......in my case I have no imagination and therefore not limited!! (LOL)

.......and yes I still look - even when I have spent my week's pocket money and not allow to buy any more! :tinysmile_twink_t:

Good Hunting!

Cheers

Welcome to the forum Drill Round.
I think that collecting ordnance is really a way of life. You just have to keep an eye out, especially at markets and car boot sales. Of course, the broader your interest, the easier it will be. Personally, most of my stuff comes from either auction websites or from militaria fairs.

Hpaay hunting

All those places previously listed are great, but the best source is folks right here on this forum.

For me contacts is the important thing.
You get to know people and what they want, they get to know you and what you want and before you know it you're trading rounds with each other. BOCN, ECRA and IAA are all excellent ways of doing this.
"Post WW2 cannon rounds up to 57mm"............me to:tinysmile_twink_t:what rounds are you looking for?
Dave.
