hi could any one help me with info on what this item was used for? i think it may be a proofing round or similar

The projectile is described by John Carlin in an Armourer article as:

'Mk V APDS practice projectile. This design will be familiar to some shooters as a design used to cut perfectly round holes in targets. As more usual practice APDS projectile was similar to the service projectile with the exception of the tungsten core being replaced by one of mild steel or lead, I would speculate that the MK V was used against mock targets to enable accuracy to be assesed'.
