Purpose :
According to patent US # 4947753 the design of this Stun grenade is to create a stun grenade that:
-Creates no dangerous fragmentation.
-Has no incendiary effect.
-Creates no smoke upon exploding.
-Is safe for the user when hit by a bullet.
-Is safe for the user, hostages and suspects when thrown.
-Can be safely send by United parcel service.
-Is cheaper than existing models in use.
-Can be carried in standard SMG magazine pouches.
Construction :
The grenade consists of a plastic tube (1) with a rounded base, with a steel screwed on on lid (2) in top. Inside –in top- a steel connection piece (3) is placed, treaded in top to receive the standard The M201A1 grenade fuze (4), however with no pyrotechnic delay. A modified Spoon (5) is placed on the fuze body, enshuring the spoon cannot slip through fingers. A piece of reinforced rubber hose (6) is pressed in the base of the steel connection piece, housing a length 5 inch length of Fire Fox standard fast buring fuse (7). This fuse ends in a Mantespo #8 fuze cap detonator (8). The lower portion of this detonator is placed in the explosive mixture (9), consisting of ¾ ounce (21,2 grams) of Bullseye pistol powder, aluminium powder may be added for the flash effect. A foam rubber filler (10) is placed between the explosive charge and the steel connection piece.
Function :
Before throwing, the spoon is pressed againt the grenade body, and the split pin is removed. When thrown, the mouse trap type firing pin pushes away the spoon, rotating into the firing cap. The firing cap ignites the Fire Fox standard fast burning fuze which expires in between 1 to 2 seconds, igniting the detonator, which ignites the main charge, resulting in a loud bang and a bright flash of light which disorients and temporary blinds persons.
