Orange SD 2 wings.

I've come across a lot of SD 2 wings over the years but these are the first that I've found with orange paint on them.
They're part of the batch from Ben at War and Peace. Several were the same.
It appears to be some sort of undercoat under the green paint.
Definitely NOT rust.
Has anyone seen this type of paint before on SD 2's?
Dave.

Thanks Dave, I wonder if the wings were painted up as training bombs but then the order changed......

Dave.

Here is a picture from museum deposit showing the orange paint.
I wonder if they were collected and re-used.

It could be the paint is the old red lead primer its all that was used at that time and it goes an orange colour over the years.

Thanks, I hadn't realised red lead goes orange over the years. That makes sense now.

Dave.

yes it dose and being a painter for 45years we used to use the red lead when i was an apprentice, its all to do with oxidation over the years when it gets exposed to the air,
