Does anyone have any information on the U-OZM-72 (training version) of the OZM-72? I am looking for infomation on the mine and if it has any hazardous pieces to it.

Hi Joe,
as all of the Rusian designd items, the U-OZM-72 with the white inert marking stripe should be completely inert without any live compounds.
I have seen another one with a red stripe on it which has a pyrotechnic charge in it for practice purposes nd which has aso an expelling charge in the base of the pot.

If it is marked "U-OZM-72" (white stripe) it will be inert (as far as that applies to Russian/Soviet ammunition), if it is designated "UI-OZM-72" (red stripe) it will be a practice mine with a spotting charge (or a special detonator which has a red marking).
I just can not tell right now if a "UI-OZM-72" is existing.
For example a "UI-PMN-2" with a red stripe exists.

Very interesting. Could you show it? Because I know only UI-PMN-3, but not UI-PMN, UI-PMN-2 or UI-PMN-4
And as I know, exist only UI-OZM-4 and maybe UI-OZM-3, but I`m not sure about last mine.And I haven`t ever heard and sow UI-OZM-72, only just U-OZM-72.
First time after WWII in Soviet Army weren`r practice land-mines (I mean UI mines, which made for explosion, not U mines) and for training were used home made mine (they produced in Army by special instrustion). I have two small instruction how to make them. For example, how to make POMZ-2 and OZM-152 :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Here you`re UI-OZM-4.I`ve seen this mine only once in Inrenet.
Unfrotunatly I don`t have manual for UI-OZM-4. In manual for this mine doesn`t tell anything about this version of mine.
In ex-USSR very popular different airsoft games and sometimes they use and practice mines. For example, take U-OZM-72 and put beans or small plastic balls insted of fragmentation. Propelling gharge - two special bilding bullets. But one very importent notice - and with this mine you can get to prison, in ex-USSR. Tyme to tyme police arrested this man, because they should to show how police work
Joe, your's is inert as per it's markings.

I do not have the images but have seen the remnants of one after people handled it thinking it was inert... Only after that they came and asked what they had there...
Haven't we all had those types of incidents. Units coming back from Bosnia and Kosovo would bring "inert" mines back and then find smoke charges in them later. A little research and asking some questions goes a long way.

Hallo,
as EOD explained before, the white striped version is completely inert. Instead of the energetic material in the live version, this training version contains only inert plastic granules. Mechanically the white striped version is identical with the live model. Attached is a picture for your consideration.

I had this with Bosnian EODs in Kosovo/Albania, they were willing to bite the yellow painted detonators of the yellow striped mines with their teeth to prove they were inert - I took one and set it off. Their apetite was gone imediately...
