PADR FABR KARLSRUHE 1895

HI, I'm David and this is my first post. I'm a keen metal detectorist, not an ordnance collector but like to learn as much as possible about my finds. For that reason I'd like to know more about a shell case that I dug up a few days ago. The aperture at the top is around 37mm and has a rimmed base. When looking at the base it has PADR FABR at the top then 2 stars on opposite sides in the middle and KARLSRUHE at the bottom and with 1895 below that. I'm confused as to why a German munition would turn up in Clevedon, Somerset. Also I'd like to find out what sort of gun would have fired such a shell. Grateful for any feedback.

It looks like a 37x94R.You should try to clean the headstamp and take better pictures. It looks like an export headstamp so it was probably not used by the German Empire itself. The texts is an abbreviated Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe, which was a subsidary of DWM (Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabrik)

Hi Alpini, many thanks for your reply. I measured it and it is 94mm long. I aasume that's what you meant by 37x94. I will try to clean up the headstamp and take a better photo.
