1916, French Army in trench warfare with Germans https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050825/?_ssoLoop=1. High Command makes a plain stupid plan of attack and sends soldiers into an impossible mission. When it fails, they court martial soldiers for not being able to take German positions. A very strong film. Don't be discouraged by its age or being "black and white". French killed off their aristocracy so people on top were being a..holes for no reason, Germans still had aristocracy, so German a..holes felt even more encouraged to abuse regular infantry soldiers. All the way through IIWW. This movie reminds me of Breaker Morant https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080310/.
