I obtained these today after a brief skirmish at an auction;
I will likely try to find some proper screws to fill the empty holes with a thin board behind to hold them.
They weren't quite empty , I was amazed to see that the later paper inspection cards survived on the outside.

super items love to see in that condition, i will most likely be corrected here but from my experience the stars on the top box right possibly means its been modified

I've cleaned these up somewhat, removing as much of later paint
spillage as I could (pink) . Where the wood was splintered out when the screws were removed
I haven't infilled but just darkened the area. So now at least the damage doesn't stand out.
Next if I can is to find some screws and fill those holes. I've tried to do the least possible with the best effect.
If some one has drawings or can make templates of the internal parts I would try to restore those too.
