The above pictured shellcase looks like it is made of brass. All shellcases of this type, I have seen, were steel with that most interesting silvery-gray coloured metallic anti-corrosion surface treatment that is used with a lots of russian steel items. I still don't know for shure what this plating is. Cadmium ? The brass case must be a very early one.
