Hi,

Can anyone help with identification of this shell case?

It measures approx. 8 cm across the mouth of the case and approx 10.5 cm across the base. It measures approx. 39 cm from base to top.

There is absolutely no headstamp.

Any help on age, weapon and nationality would be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers,

Gary

Closest match in my Ammo database is the 12 pdr 12 cwt L/40 naval/AA gun from WW1, as this has a calibre of 7.62 mm, a case length of 390 mm for the separate loaded version, and a rim diameter of 104 mm. Also used by Japan as the 8 cm/40 Type 3 and Type 88.
