Please help! Is this safe?

Hi there,

This shell has been sat in my house for about 10 years and my parents house before for at least 15 years. I never thought it could be anything else but inert but now I have a niggling doubt. Please could someone help ease my mind.

The shell is approx 170mm long and 56 mm in diameter. It weighs 2.8 kgs (6 lbs). The marks say "AP" "6PR 7CWT" "BS VHT" "JMB 12/42" on the base is a stamp "MC"

How much for the case and how much if I sell?

6PR = 6 Pounder
7CWT = 7 Hundred weight
JMB 12/42 = Inspection acceptance December 42
Not sure about the BS VHT - I think possible manufacturer?
M/C on base maybe for Machined for tracer?

I would offer £50 all in with recorded insured post
Looking for £70 for the case all in

could "VHT" be Vacuum Heat Treatment as this line is mostly describing material and way of manufacture? It's just a guess and I am not sure when the vacuum heat treatment process was invented.

VHT could be VIIT, for Mark VII Tracer.
Could match with this flat driving band (band used from MkV and next)
