Am attempting, over the Christmas period, to bring some sort of order to the untidy heap that passes as my collection of ordnance items, and this was retrieved from the depths of a dusty cupboard.
It appears to be a perfectly ordinary case shot, dimensions (approximately) 400mm overall, calibre 57mm, and sadly lacking its shot or other shell contents, and the headstamp is an enigmatic EP, with a (?) date of 98 and a star beneath that. Why do I get the impression that it is French or Belgian manufacture?DSCN1069[1].JPGDSCN1070[1].JPG
Can anyone help, pse.

Pretty sure that that's the one. Mine is missing about 55mm from the bottom of the "skirt", but this ties in with other damage probably caused by the removal of the contents at some time in the past.
Merci, mon ami.

Some picture more about 57 x 225 Belgium made.

Grateful to Lambert for additional pics etc.
My guess is that the shrapnel contents of the round were removed so that the case could be stood upright without toppling over on mantlepiece or suchlike.
The sectioned example that Lambert has shows the complete length of the case shot itself, confirming that mine is missing part of the lower section and closing cap.
Shame, but equally, we don't see much in the way of Belgian ammunition in the UK (or at least I don't).
Merci, Lambert.
