Possible PRAC PIAT?

ozziammo

HONOURED MEMBER RIP
Howdy BOCN members,

Another find at a recent fair,

What is it? (not the PIAT)

Looks sort of PIAT like (similar size), wooden head, steel nose, aluminium tail section. No markings what so ever that I can see.

I have laquered the wood as it has a bad case of wood borer!

Thanks,

Regards Ozzi.

Hi Ozziammo,
I can see the similarities. the fact that it has vent holes at the bottom of the tail makes me think more of a mortar. The piat relies on its propulsion from gas pressure created when the cartridge at the top end of the tail is fired and if it had holes in the tail a lot of the gas would escape. Interesting piece of ordnance never the less.

Yeah, maybe for short range, only builds up small amount of pressure, the ally tube wouldn't take too much tho!

Note the tail section is not really aerodynamic either, similar concept to cone stabilized proj for tank guns (maybe), can't wait for someone to crack this one!!!

Thanks.

Cheers,

Ozzi.

Well how about that, excellent guys, thanks.

How the heck did it get to Australia is the next interesting question!

Regards Ozzi.
