Post WWII Russian BR-372 85mm Armor Piercing Projectile

Here is my next restoration project. I am going to put the driving bands back on this projectile.

Do you have the measurements you need of OD of bands?

Hello John. I do not have any good photos or drawings of the bands. They are much different than the WWII projectile bands - much wider. What can you offer?

I will check, I have a variant or two. Also, if anyone has a Frag Guide, it will have all the dimensions and details.

I have put brass driving bands back onto this projectile. Does anyone have a picture or drawing of the round so I can know the final shape to machine it to on the lathe?

I have this from the frag guide,mine is dated 1973 and lists BR365,BR365k,BR365P,BR365PK projectiles but not BR372,maybe this one came out later

frag guide also says bands should be copper

That frag guide shows the BR-365's bands. Those on the BR-372 look different.

The bands on the BR-372 are very wide compared to other 85mm ammo. They are 0.7 inches wide each. It is now my understanding this projectile was only used with the D-48 85mm antitank cannon, and this gun used a 100mm case necked down to 85mm. How difficult is it to find this case in Europe?

In Europe -beside the SU- the D-48 was in service only in Bulgaria and Romania, the ASU-85 tank destrolyer was used only by Poland so i guess it's hard to get.

Its made out of brass............

I gave the brass a nice patina by soaking it in a vinegar and salt solution.

Marek shared some photos with me of Polish training UBR-372 rounds for the D-48 antitank gun that are in dealer hands in Poland. Theoretically, Bowman should have these for sale in the US at some point.
