Practice Bomb not white ~

I picked this up today, I am used to seeing all white examples.
This one has a grey front body and a black tail. No markings, though
those likely were on tags now gone. It has a thick split pin to
hold the firing pin unit. What do the colours indicate - American issue ?

Colour wise that post seems to refer to white, but the illustrations look black, though that may be
meaningless, has any one else come across one in grey and black ? If I get the nose to unscrew
I should pin down which one of those it is.

I found stamped on it 11 1/2 LB , FB 40 on it ~ Not a heavy stamp and
paint filled.

I'm pleased with that early date for ww2. it was only $35 not that
they are worth a lot, but everyone wants way more for them
it seems lately with little cause other than greed. I'll hang it up
from the ceiling to go with my ww1 bomb.

Drill rounds(or inert items used as such) were often painted black,the only multi coloured practice bombs i've seen have been later dated ,coloured smoke or "collector renditions".
