think it's a tear gas rifle grenade for riot control, for use with AK with adapter, Warsaw Pact but can't remember which nation.

Thank you batonroundcollector, it was driving me crazy, at least i've got a tip...

Hi,

I'm pretty sure it's an Ubungssplittergranate RGD-5 mit Zunder AS-73 Ub.

It's an East German practice version of the RGD-5 fragmentation grenade.

It was designed to be fired from a cup discharger fitted to AK-47 assault rifles.

Cheers,

Gary

I stand corrected :) did think it was for anti riot use - wasn't aware that RGD-5 (offensive i.e. blast- not frag) could be cup-launched... what with the under-barrel GP-25/-30 grenade launcher/VOGs?? why not use the URG-N with the adapter for training?

The URG-N blows out forward what will let the grenade jump back. Also the weight has to be observed ere (did not compare both).

People tend to create fantasy products as long as threads or diameters fit (cases and projectiles). Means there is no F-1 version and also no URG-N.
The only legit versions are the life RGD-5 and the 2 red ones (one like an inert RGD-5 and the one with the heavy body with openings).
The inert red RGD-5 is also using a different tail section which has no fuze parts inside and is solid plastic.

Hi,

I think the RGD-5 is a fragmentation grenade - the following link to lexpev's site shows the fragmentation liner

http://www.lexpev.nl/grenades/sovietbalkan/russia/rgd5.html

Darryl Lynn's guide to Warsaw Pact grenades is also very good.

Cheers,

Gary

didn't know RGD-5 had frag liner given how thin body is.

were these gren launching adapters used by all Warsaw Pact forces?

Hallo, diese Gewehrgranate war eine bungsgranate, aber es sollten auch RGD- 5 Splittergranaten verschossen werden. Ich habe die Anleitung von
der Polizei.
In der Anlage die ersten Seiten.
