Proof rounds

very intresting thread.
Is this steel cased 7.92mm by FN a proof round? has a black extraction groove and red shoulder/neck, it is one of the rounds you gave me and you did tell me about it then but as you know I was having a spot of grief with laught a minute at the time and the info didn't 'sink in',sorry:tinysmile_hmm_t2:

No, it is a ball round with a steel copper washed case.

I am sure FN must have made .30-06 proof rounds but I cannot recall seeing one. If they did, it would probably be marked with a serated rim or perhaps a "SURP" headstamp, or may even have been tinned.

Although they made several lots of 30-06 ball and tracer for British service in the 1960s they did not make proof rounds. AFAIK, only Kynoch did so.
