Radium, used in watch dials to be able to tell time in the dark, was seen as a miracle substance after Marie Curie pre IWW discovery and use of X-rays in the field hospitals during IWW https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6317180/. After the Great War, it was seen as a wonder cure for practically anything. This story, starting in 1925, is of the girls who painted watch dials for American Radium Corp. And of what happened to them after they licked the brushes......

I believe theres a guy on Youtube who goes around graves around America to reveal the tragic stories of some of the deceased, he reported on these women who worked in these factories and you can still pick up radiation with a counter over their graves. Theres also a a series of programs the BBC done about the dangers of radium as well as electricity etc. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25259...se were obviously, and from un-insulated wires.
In the early days of radium the wonder element they used it in toothpaste, condoms and in your water system etc. Worth a look.
