Restored M17 Impact Frag., Rifle grenade.

V40,.. I too had a hard time finding the "Grenade, Rifle, Fragmentation, Impact" M17, in WWII GI manuals. But I did...TM 9-1985, 22 Oct. 1943, page 30, paragraph 24. It was issued as a complete round. The frag. body was SIMILAR to the Mk IIA1 and was assembled to a fuse and stabilizer assembly. Firing / range charts are given for use with M1 (M1903), M2 (M1917), M7 (M1), and M8 (M1 carbine) launchers. They were NOT an adapter to be used with Mk II grenades. Here is the drawing from TM 9-1985.

Of course Mark! Never get rid of that piece. It's with the LAW I have. Haven't been able to find a cheap Dragon to go with it yet, but still looking. I think the trade was for a couple 37s and a 26.5 launcher. I want to see if I can locate some un-used front and rear pieces for it. Good to see you here, Bro, GROG

Did someone mention cheap Dragon??

Im sorry, took the thread off track. So Im confused, did the M17 have an adapter to fit the grenade threads or was the grenade modified to fit the adapter???

The T2 and M17, Fragmentation, Impact, Rifle Grenades were issued as one complete round. each consisted of a frag. body similar to the U.S. Mk II ( made from Mk 2 bodies is my guess ), a tail-fin and tube assembly, an impact fuse assembly similar to the M9 grenade. They were arsenal assembled and packed in cardboard shipping containers. If the body is removed the threaded stud exposed is the detonating charge of the impact fuse assembly. My Mk II body has 9/16" threads, while my T2 has 5/8" -18 tpi threads. There may be manufacturing differences. There were, adding to the confusion, field made adapters to allow the 60mm morter round to be added to a M9 / M17 tail unit, in addition to the authorized use of the M1 projection adapter with the motor round.... History sure is fun!... Picture shows bodies, T2 on left, MkII on right.
