Can anyone give a positive id on this item ? it's a practice grenade of the RGD 5 type but it is obviously meant to be fired from something ? interestingly, the threads are different from a normal hand thrown version, and the fuses don't interchange. Tony.

This is an East German manufactured practice rifle grenade. I have on in my collection that I acquired from a German EOD company in Dresden in 1994.

The actual designation is "Ubangssplittergranate RGD-5 mit Zunder AS-73Ub". Designed for firing with a spotting charge the smoke from the charge escaping through the holes in the grenade body. Used only by the Border Police, not by the NVA. I have attached a couple of photos that might help.
