Interesting aspect, i haven`t noticed this before. I am also curious if someone knows more about this.

I must say that the second type with the long core from the diagram makes no sense to me. Not only do I think it`s very hard to cut threads for a tracer (or for anything) in tungsten carbide, but also the fact that the core is unsupported at the rear leaves room for rearward movement at the moment of firing (due to inertia) or forward movement (due to gases pushing the core out).
 
It is my understanding the two piece core design came out after WWII. All of the Russian manuals, even the post war versions, only mention the one designation for all four designs.
