just came across this pic with the title "Russian MIB grenade Mine". Any information out there on this one?Russian MIB grenade mine.jpg

Unsure if it is real or not, but if it was, I'd say a copy in concept from the M86 PDM. Take an off the shelf area denial submunition and adapt it for ground troop use. That being said, I've seen no documents and it would be an easy piece to fake.

It is real but not off the shelf. It only has some commons with the POM-2S but is a different design. To be sued as a grenade or as a mine, depending on what is needed (the mine config has a different actuator on top). The mine configuration has a SD feature (3-100 h, do not know if selectable). Diameter is 61.5mm, length is 170mm. The 4 tripwires are 10m long each.

МИБ - Многофункциональный боеприпас
MIB - Multipurpose munition

Type of ammunition: Fragmentation;

Delay (as handgranade): 3''-5'';
Arming delay (as mine): 60''-120'';
Time of self-destruction (as mine): 3-100 hh;

It is known also as "Drozd".

Not a fake, great nice piece od ordnance and how Russian copies US stuff. Like the baseball sub they copied and the LAW. Are there any more pictures of this item out there and more on the actuator/fuzing? Like would the soldier carry 2 different fuzes with this item? Used with regular soldiers or SpecOps?

The USSR also copied the BLU-52 / 54 (mine version) as POM-1S, the Dragon Tooth BLU-44 as PFM-1 and the M18 Claymore as MON-50, the Sidewinder AA missile and other stuff too...

Maybe Ivan, but some sources report "Drozd". :tinysmile_twink_t2:

But it's good to know there is another nickname. :tinysmile_grin_t:

Ciao

EOD meant the BLU-42 A/B or BLU-54 submunition. This type of sub is also called the WAAPM (Wide Area Anti Personnel Mine). The Soviet POM-1 and POM-1S are copipes of it. As I understand it they are identical with the exception the POM-1S has a self destruct.
