Was told this was a s-mine box and an ancillary box for the s-mine.

Anyone know the truth?

Yes this is one of the types of s-mine containers. There was another metal type of box and two other wooden designs, one for the s-44.
The picture to the right, number 4 is a accessory box for the s-mine that contained all the bits to set up 9 s-mines, there was also the wooden version..

Chris, my friend, I wonder what wooden design especially for the 44 you mean?

Peter it's the normal wooden s-mine box but the top of the lid is opened out to accommodate the top of the fuze flash tube that is off set from the middle of the s-mine 44.

This is the s-mine 44 wooden case as the top lid is open to allow the top of the mine which is offset. This box can also be used for both types of mines the s-mine 35.

This box was not a modified box as the design of the brackets differ to the early box with smaller hole in lid. This design both types of mines can be used, hence the box being marked as s-mine35.
