Looks to be a reasonable SC50. Do you have photos of the fuze pocket? (are the threads ok for the locking rings?)
Pete, it ought to restore quite well if that is your intention.

Some more pictures

What is a decent price for one of these?

Another picture, this time of the tail fin.

Would it cost a lot of money to restore it?

Pete,
how much these things are worth is up to the individual and how much 'you' want to pay for it. (what it may be worth to me, may be different to what its worth to you - so its very difficult to price these things.)
As far as 'restoration' goes, it depends how far you want to go with it. There is the material costs of restoration of course, but there is also your time. Things like this are fun to do, but people have different ideas of how far restoration ought to go. You cannot take something that is relic or semi-relic and make it into something 'as new'. However you can have lots of fun, and indeed learn a lot about construction etc in doing such projects. Of course the ideal is to own items in the best condition you can find them - these items fetch a premium of course.

If you dont want to overspend on the project then try to price the item once you have 'restored it', then deduct the cost of paint, filler and anything else you would need to spend on it, you may then wish to reduce the price a little more for the unexpected costs. Areas I would look at are threads for the hanging eyes and the locking rings. If the threads are damaged or the locking rings rusted in place then these are things that are going to be difficult to replace. Look for any significant damage to the fins, though these matter less as they can always be replaced with a better set.

From the pictures you have posted it looks like it needs a fair ammount of attention, but its not beyond restoration by any means.

not really sure if I've been of any help, but sometimes you have to trust your own instinct on things......

regards Kev

Nose ring and fuze pocket and fuze ELAZ25 BVY.

That nose ring seems badly rusted and maybe can't be removed?

Any ideas how it could be removed?

Like an idiot, I've let this SC50 slip through my fingers, it's now sold...

I feel such a fool :argh:

Sorry to hear that the bomb was sold, it would be best to do some research about restoration, costs etc how remove rusty items and so on. Sand blasting would be a good option to restore rusty items but you have to be careful how it's done as cast metals in certain types of as soil in the ground can turn soft and just blast away the metal and ruin the item, there is a huge difference between using glass bead to corse steel shot that will leave the finish of your item as rough as corse grade sand paper. Be careful with tail fins as the rust can pin hole the metal causing more work. Best thing to do is play around and clean up cheap relic items, you then get a feel to see how rust attacks metal and you know with experience when or not to pass up or go for items when such opportunities turn up, with your new gained knowledge you can make a snap dissistion and haggle on price as you have more confidence as you know what you are talking about on restoration. In the mean time have a play with some relic bits any problems you come across I am sure the lads on here can help you out, then you will be ready for the next one that turns up. In some cases the one you missed could have turned out to be a blessing in disguise as you could have messed up on it and you would then have kicked yourself. In this game it's better to wait as the next one will be much better, patience is what you need.
