New to the collection a Schermuly Training Grenade. Im looking for any pics or diagrams of the charge used. Also were they once use or could they be reloaded and used again. Cheers Mick.

Mick,

Here is the U.S. Version manufactured by Kilgore, I believe that the charge design was similar with the Schermuly.

The US Version was not designed to be reloadable and I do not believe that the Schermuly Manufactured Version was either.

Stay safe,

Frank

Still made in the UK by Chemring Defence ( who are the successors to Schermuly, Pains Wessex, Haley and Weller etc).

The earliest record I can find of this grenade is 1980 when it was marketed by Schermuly as a 'Stun' grenade (Delay 1.5 to 2 seconds, sound 200 to 250 dB at 1 metre, flash 1.5 to 2 million candela). In 1981 it is marketed as a Training Grenade (Delay 1.5 to 2 seconds, sound 170 dB at 1 metre, flash 1 million candela).

In 1996 it was advertised as a Stun Grenade (Delay 2 seconds minimum, sound greater than 175dB at 1 metre, flash greater than 1.75 million candela).

I believe the Schermuly basic design was improved by the design team at Haley and Weller when they amalgamated.

Bonnex the lever on mine is marked MTY-4-80 could this be the date of manufacture April 1980 or am i barking up the wrong tree with that. Cheers Mick.

Seems a very reasonable tree to me although the 4 could be a lot number rather than a month identifier. Personally I'd go with 'month' until proven otherwise.

Were these the same grenades used by the "22"nd "Pagoda SAS during the rescue at the Iranian embassy
