Not being a fan of the Happy Clappy EU Club I found Merkels comments re 50 plus years of peace in Europe rather disturbing.
Surely the reason for the period of peace & relative stability is due to the realisation of the waste etc of full on wars?
Anyone a bit of paranoid/cynical may have taken her comment as a hint that if the Euro failed it would lead to war?
Seems to me as the Germans have failed to rule Europe by might & force they want to by trade & finance & saw a single currency as a tool to gain such. Now that goal seems to be slipping from their grasp they are throwing their toys out of the pram (as well as clutching at straws)!!
