If I am not mistaken it's a USN interwar practice bomb. I'll check later in my files.

This is a USA 3lb Mk23 Mod1 Practice Bomb , cast iron and used a 10ga Mk4 spotting cartridge paper or aluminium in the nose to make an impact signal.

Mk23

The MK-23 has an overall length of 8.25" and is made of cast iron. The diameter at its largest point was 2.18". The fins were 2.5" in length. The weight, when empty, but with firing pin was 2 lbs-14 oz. while when armed was approximately 3 lbs-0 oz.

10ga Spotter.jpegThe 10ga NUBLACK is 6" long. Makes a flash and smoke to indicate where the bomb hits. Aluninium case is a later one.

Very nice collection you have there US-Subs including the ones in the background, thanks for showing
