Found this pic and was curious what this munition was "doing". I'm thinking it's a smoke/screening sort of thing, but that's just a guess. Anybody know?

I also hope you find out as that is a spectacular picture. If I didn't know it was coming I would litterally jump boat. It is scarey in some ways just to look at it from a side angle shot. Good for you to have found this picture.
 
Now that is a thing of beauty. Glad some people are out there doing "Living History" on the Korean War!

Also interesting to note the extensive shrapnel splashing down as well as radiating from the burst point-really serious stuff:eek:
 
Thanks to Spotter, we at least have narrowed it down to the smoke screen thing. NOW, reckon what it looks like before it goes poof?

I just re-read the picture caption(quoted below) and am now thinking the brown blast cloud is part of the bombardment and not part of the smoke screen. A non-lethal air-blast training round? For firing over the friendlies?!?!? All those amphib dudes must have some huge codpieces.
