I remember those MK13 flares, the night side was marked by the bumps on the end of the flare, the day side was flat. This was supposed to make it easier to pop at night. Also the pencil flares were alot of fun.

by the way, everything you see with the exception of the srobes, 5 minute fusse, Gyrojets and the Mk.13's are made by Penguin.

I'll add some of my Gyrojet flare/signal cartridges to the thread. The two over caliber ones have a major diameter of 20mm. The large one with the two pengun launchers is a 25mm version, nose ejection.

Bob,

Do all of them fit the same launcer. I have never seen the 25mm ones before. Also, can you tell me more about them.

hink441,

Do you remember when you had to shake it until the igniter ignited either side?

I don't really know anything special about the 12.7/20mm flare rounds. As far as I know they were fired from the Pengun launcher, not any of the Gyrojet weapons. The other 12.7mm signals could be fired from either the Pengun or the shoulder fired or hand gun weapons. The first photo may be hard to see, but there is one of the 12.7/20mm rounds shown with the gun. This is somewhat of a puzzle to me because it shows the round as part of the MBA survival kit and shows one of the handgun versions as part of the kit. I don't see how you could fire the 12.7/20mm round from the handgun. The second photo is one of the strangest pieces of ordnance anyone could dream up. It is the 25mm SRU-27/P, Rocket Signal Smoke, Gyrofan. The impeller opened as the round slowed and allowed it to drop more slowly to the ground. The last photo are variations of the 25mm signal round.
The rounds and weapons are becoming very hard to find in the US. As luck would have it I know a collector in Canada who began collecting gyrojet weapons at a very early age. He has a tremendous collection presentation weapons, one-of-kind ones and regular ones. Unfortunately he is basically stuck with them. He wants to sell them, but they can't be legally imported back into the states and he hasn't found anyone in Canada interested or with enough money. I tried through some ATF and State Department contacts to get him an exemption to import for sale in the US and it was a no-go. One of the down falls of collecting I guess.
