South East Asian Vacation

Fragman

Hi. I had the mother of all clean-up this weekend, having sorted out most of my bits and pieces. As Vietnam has been topical of late, I thought it worthwhile putting a few items together from that era (I may have taken liberties with the timing of some pieces :tinysmile_classes_t). I hope you find a couple of pieces of interest, if not .... :viking:Cheers

Fragman,

You certainly know how to make a person very jealous with envy don't you! Cheers my friend.

Now I have to find a place where my family is not around and to just cry it out and tell myself over and over again: "it'll be OK Mark, they are , Yes, he is only showing fakes! just fakes!:tinysmile_cry_t4:

Fakes!! Repros!!:banghead: Ok you got me:flute:. The two M217 impact fuzes and the short wooden handle on the VC jungle workshop stick grenade are repros (also repainted). I suspect the VC booby trap has been repainted (too nice), along with M34 (pretty sure it should be light green). Other than that I'm confident the rest are original. Cheers

Fragman,
can you send me closer pictures of the NVA/VC grenades?:tinysmile_tongue_t: Also, you are very right on the M34. It does look like it might be a little too much of a cream color according to your picture, but none-the-less, a great picture at that. Should be a little more green on the outside of it. It still looks like an original to me if that says anything? Also, you are spot-on in regards to the color it should be, "Light Green".

vinnyw,

Yes, there were two paint schemes for the M34. The light green ones were used during Vietnam. I am not aware of any practice version though. SOG would carry them on their web gear. Usually 2-4 cans each. Where SOG went, the 34 provided instant smoke with some instant casualties on the NVA/VC side. Then, with that being said they were wiped out within 30 seconds on average or less. They were killed by either Cobras and/or Skyraiders (best attack plane out there in Vietnam) and usually with 2.75" rockets.

Hi, Thanks for the comments. Here’s some extra pictures as requested. The M34 is an original one and I got the V40 from a friend in the UK about 7 years ago (the pins is a repro, so if you have a spare please contact me). It has the stenciling on the bottom, but has never been painted (brown colour is light rust patina). Cheers
