Spanish 37mm Pom Pom?

Please see the attached photo of a 37mm Pom Pom with PA stamped in the side of the projectile and a case with No headstamp. The projectile is of typical VSM style but I’ve been told it’s Spanish. Can anyone confirm that? We’re they made for Spanish consumption or for a foreign contract? And who we’re PA?

many thanks, Dave

Hello,

"PA" it means it was made in Spain for Placencia de las Armas (The Placencia de las Armas Company Limited) subsidiary company of VSM.

Many thanks no3nh4, so would they have been made on behalf of VSM for, perhaps, British service, for Spanish service or for a foreign contract?

Dave

As it was a subsiduary of Maxim/Vikers, these are found intermingled in British service and are really the same as VSM and went any where those did, USN purchases and so on.
So concider them as part of the British 1Pr series. Now you need to find the pointed steel base fuzed version ~

Many thanks Gspragge, that answers that. I have the VSM base fuzes version.

best regards Dave
