Spencer 56-46 what are the differences?

hi, please see the attached photo of 2 rounds which are both 56-46, The taller of the two is by Fitch Van Vechten but the Bennet primed example is unmarked. Clearly these would not chamber in the same weapon so what was the Bennet primed round used in?

any thoughts?
