Hey guys,a friend in QLD has this item and is trying to ID it..i know its from a artillery case of some description but cant get any google hits for the stampings...any help would be fantastic!

At the time in question it was a subsidiary of Garrard & Co., the Crown Jewellers. This part of the company was also involved in the manufacture of timers for sea mines. Post war they went on to manufacture complete gramophone turntables.
