Tungsten Core ID needed please.

I have a tungsten core measuring 13.5cm long with a diameter of 4cm.
There are markings stencilled on the base which are, S at the top with RS 538 underneath, then B under that.

Can anyone help to ID it please?

The 17 pounder cores are about 38mm by 122mm long so perhaps its a 20 pounder core.

It should be Tungsten Carbide and there are bigger ones.

I just measured the core in the sectioned 20 pounder I have and the dimensions are 135mm by 40mm so match yours.
See photos. The core looks slimmer in the photos because it is a third section projectile and so part of the core is hidden by the steal sheath it is fitted into.
So in my opinion your core is definitely from a 20 pounder apds tank round.
The core is tungsten.

You could do what I did with mine; calculate its density by weighing and estimating its volume, and compare with

Tungsten carbide (WC) 15.8
Tungsten 19.25
DU 19.1

I have a similar and somewhat larger piece of unknown (to me) origin. Can anyone identify?

Weight 3.6kg, diameter 48mm, total length 167mm, length of cylindrical part 123mm, density about 15 point something, so probably tungsten carbide. There are hand-engravings 15124 - 1956 - XVI W.E.H. (or perhaps Russian Л5124 - Л956 - Ц.E.H.) The 1 digit(s) are European style.

Tony I'm not sure exactly what the markings mean but my best guess is its the core from one of these 90mm rounds.
The core on mine is 48mm wide, 170mm long and weighs 3637g.
