Type 63 107mm rocket artillery

DF-41A

Active Member
My collection of a type 63 107mm rocket artillery. The one who sold me this claim it's made for exhibition purposes, so no stencils, let along propellants or even explosives. I dont know the exact model of the warhead, but this whole thing is very heavy, about 15kg. I believe this weapon system is no longer active-duty in the PLA, replaced by FPVs or other more modern weapons.
One thing particular about this rocket artillery is that it can be fired even without a tube. With some simple aiming and a couple of batteries, one can fire it and hit the target within a 2km range (it could fly further, but the the scatter would be ugly).

I have heard this referred to as "the great grandchild of the Nebelwerfer". Most are Chinese made, and should be fired from a 3 x 3 towed tube launcher.

Horribly inaccurate, even when fired from the proper launcher, but as you can sling two of these on a donkey and all you need to fire them is a car battery and a length of wire they are the terrorist "Plat du jour" of the middle east. The warhead is a bit puny, and equivalent to a 81mm Mortar bomb, although the kinetic energy of the projectile is quite high and can penetrate Hesco if the fuze fails. One lucky guy in Afghan came in from patrol and flopped on his bed still wearing his body armour, which was lucky as one of these came in through the mud wall, put a groove across his back plate and exited through the far wall.. he only suffered a couple of cracked ribs..!

Having been on the receiving end of these a couple of times, the saving grace is that you can hear them coming in...!

The colour of this one is a bit odd. All the Chinese ones I have seen are a yellow green.

Appreciate your share of experience.
The maximum speed of the rocket is slightly supersonic. So I guess when you heard it, there's little time before impact?
There were 2 kinds of green adopted in Chinese military in those days.

The one on the left with more yellow maybe the one you refered to. It was used in regions with poor vegetation, mostly northern. The one on right is opposite, used in regions with good vegetation.
