British 500lb bomb tail

This is a bomb tail bought from a farm auction, when i was a little soldier ! i cleaned it and painted it years ago when i was about 15, but it has help`d stop it rusting, i think its british & know it`s from a base at full sutton near york, it has a fin that calculates how far its off the ground so it detonates above the ground causing more damage, correct me if im wrong !, take a look .........

Is this the shortened version of the tail unit, "for use with American designed or fighter-bomber aircraft"?
