U.S. VIETNAM era practice grenades

XM69 Practice Grenade with XM228 Practice Fuze Dated October 1970. Note the Early Type Fuze "Jungle Clip".

Stay Safe,

Frank

The PAL designation on your fuse is "Penguin Industries Inc." They use to make gas grenades in the 60's.

US-Subs, Don't know if the far right grenade was VN or not, but I do remember having to dispose of a bunch of them in '83 on Okinawa along with their dye packs. You were supposed to put the dye pack in the grenade, put in a fuze and when it went off, it would emit red gel-like dye all over the place. The grandfather to paint ball wars, I guess. Ended up, so we were told, that the dye was carcinogenic, hence the hasty destruction of all existing stocks.

Yep, my favorites are The "Penguin Balls".

Attached are Inert Examples of the CN/X5G (CN Dust with Green Dye) CNX5 (CN Dust) and C/D (Concussion - Demolition) Blast Types. They are all commercial variations, however unique nonetheless.

Stay Safe,

Frank

I guess we all have one or two we put above the rest. Mine is the grenade on the right. Very similar to a period North Korean made CS grenade, but this was made in Vietnam. Really a fun one to get the CS out of too.

Wow!!

Really awesome line-up EODGUY. Of yours I am partial to the one on right also. There was some really cool ordnance from the "Vietnam era". Thanks for showing. Much of this stuff is new to me as I had not seen before. What can you tell us about the other three?? Greatly appreciated....Dano

Hello, new kid on the block..... Great forum.

Since someone already mentioned Penguin Industries I hope it is OK to post this here. A 1960's saleman's case..

Too bad, but might add to the understanding on why so few nice ones are around.

AK101 that's a beautiful display case, I've got a couple of Penguin pieces, but nothing nearly so nice as that. Very impressive.

Yes totally sweet penguin salesman set. How could one even place a value on something like that. Was it in your family?? Just caught up because we pulled an "all nighter" at my brothers house and he is computerless. Talk about withdrawl....Dano

Dano,

I found it at a gunshow recently, I just got lucky.

Some of the pen launchers walked away before I got it, but most everything else is there. latest dates on the stuff is 1967.

I am going to take it to the Phx SAR show to try to get some opinions on it from the ord dealers that usually show up.

AK101, My opinion for what it's worth is priceless. You can make money but you can't make another one of those. Great find...Dano

Wouldn't it be nice if the local ord guys would show up on your doorstep on Christmas Eve, with their display sales sets? Oh, what a nice world that would be!

Now that's what I would call a perfect world!

"Why yes, I'll take one each M26A2, M33, M56, M57, and M59"

M69

Here is a picture of my 3 M69 practice grenades, all complete. The two on the right are the earlier version. The two older versions have different sized lettering (font is the same) with the one on far right has smaller letters and lettering not in an absolute straight line like the one in center....Dano
