Underwater Beaufighter wreck

Great article Yodamaster. I read an article years ago when still at school (20 odd years back...) telling of the discovery of a Boeing B17 Flying fortress in a desert (middle east, Africa?) which had effectively landed itself after the crew bailed during WW2. Other than a few bent props it was more or less intact. It was found (I think) late 70's early 80's. When the team cleared the .50 cal guns of sand on site, they still operated, the crew described firing off a few rounds. Incredible, and a stunning aircraft.
Wonder where she ended up?...

Many thanks Tim, the passing of time has obviously clouded my memory. I thought it was a B17 but you have put me right. Explains why I never found any info on 'Desert B17'.
An incredible and poignant story, superb aircraft and remarkable crew.
Thanks for putting me straight.
