Underwater Mine ?

I have this picture of what I think maybe an underwater mine. It's from an official series of photos that I have had for years. I don't know anything about this, but it looks quite small, bearing in mind the ruler next to it is only 12" or 30cm whichever you prefer. Any comments Guys ? Tony.

Thanks Mad, that's the one. I would never had thought that it was WW2 Japanese ! I seem to remember seeing something similar in a US Vietnam war period manual, used by the enemy, probably a copy of this. Thanks again for being so quick with the ID. Tony.
