Unidentified 76-mm round

Hi

Can anyone identify this round?

It appears to be a 76mm anti-tank.
There is a fuse or tracer treaded hole in the base.
The ballistic cap appears to be a soft metal, possibly aluminum.
M313 A1 1951 is inscribed in the body.

Looks like the 76mm/3 inch HVAP but I think that was designated M93.

It does look like, but apart from a different designation I thought it was not introduce for another 10+ years.

It has the rotating band of a 3 inch or 76mm antitank or tank gun round. It would go with the straight M26 76mm tank case for the super Sherman, or the bottlenecked 3 inch Army case for the M10 Tank Destroyer.

Here it's WW2 predescessor, with a slightly different drivingbelt for use on another shellcase.

Actually DJ, the projectile you show with the enlarged area to sit on top of the case mouth if for the 1950's 76mm high velocity gun that was mounted in the M41 Walker Bulldog tank.

None of the WWII cases have the ridge that rests on the case mouth. All of the WWII rounds used rotating bands that were completely outside the case.
