Unidentified cases

A pair of items for identification if possible.

These empty aluminium cases were lying in the grass at work (former USAF base) where they'd previously been used to cap off disused cable conduits.
From the paint layers they would appear to have been in that use prior to the mid 1980s at least.

212mm (8.25") by 72mm (2.8") with a 80mm (3.1") rim.
Black plastic primer inserts are marked PP with an H on one and an E on the other.
There are no visible markings other than the EMPTY stamped into them.

Thanks in advance,

Solved: M123 series photoflash cartridge with M56 electric primer.

Should have guessed really, what with it being an ex-photo recce base and finding two crates for them last year too. ;)
