Hello everyone, found this in a ww2 training trench on a walk. It appears to be a 303 mark 7 with an extended neck and a bullet pushed in backwards. Any ideas on what this was used for? Thank you

This looks like the results of someone with a bit of spare time whilst on the range. The case is fired, as Alan1 says, by a Bren, therefore the bullet is not original to the case. The bullet itself looks to have the remains of the neck of its own case still attached, giving the extended neck appearance. A composite of two cartridges, one fired case and one unfired bullet. Quite unusual to find, however.
