Unknown 30mm Armor Piercing Projectile (Pre-WW2?)

I bought this on Gunbroker as it was inexpensive and interesting. I thought it might be an Italian 37mm tank AP projectile from before WWII. However, it is 30mm exactly in diameter across the body, and the driving bands are 31.5mm wide - about 100mm long. It also has a sheet metal ballistic tip - very unusual for a small round. I look forward to your observations.

Good eyes Sgdbdr.
Maybe a slight difference, only one groove beneath the driving band on xm639

Thank you for your help, Gentlemen. If anyone desires this for their collection, it is surplus to my requirements.
